John Poulter joined Cumberland Associates Investment Counsel Inc. (CAIC) in 2017 as a Portfolio Manager where he develops the investment strategies that include The Arcs of Fire Tactical Balanced Fund. This fund is unique as it donates a portion of its management fees to foundations that provide services to Canadian veterans.

Mr. Poulter has over three decades of progressively senior experience in securities selection and portfolio design. Prior to joining CAIC, his most recent engagements have seen him providing Investment consulting services to select investment management firms and clients. He is skilled in fund design and providing investment management services to both high net worth individuals and to broad-market retail investment distributors.

John Poulter is the founder and architect of PIQ Research’s quantitative investment analytics. PIQ Research is leading edge, commercial grade internet based provider of investment research and decision support applications.

In his years of service within the investment industry, Mr. Poulter has compiled a successful track record of private and mutual fund design.

John Poulter was also a founding partner, portfolio manager and Chief Investment Officer of Cumberland Private Wealth Management, one of Canada’s leading, independent providers of high net worth investment solutions and an affiliate of CAIC. He was also a senior member of Connor, Clark and Company’s investment management team. In both positions, Mr. Poulter was responsible for the design and implementation of quantitative security selection and portfolio management systems.  He also worked at CIBC Wood Gundy research department as a quantitative analyst and on its proprietary trading desk, developing risk-based trading systems.

With a B.A. specializing in Financial Econometrics from the University of British Columbia, John Poulter received his CFA designation in 1991.  His speaking and presentation engagements have included the Richard Ivey School of Business and the Toronto Society of Chartered Financial Analysts.
